Our story
Rooted in the hills.
The Hive was started by Ranjana Basnet and Prakash Adhikari with a simple wish: to create a place where people from different backgrounds could come together, connect, and feel genuinely welcomed. From the very first cup of coffee, we wanted The Hive to feel less like a cafe and more like a little gathering room for the hills.
What inspired us was the everyday magic of a good cafe — the chance meetings, the unhurried chats, the friendships that begin over a flat white. We wanted somewhere that quietly supports interaction, friendship, and community, with quality ingredients and a kitchen that takes pride in every plate.
We listen to our regulars, support local growers and makers, and try to make every visit feel like the easy kind. The verandah is our favourite room — open to the gum trees, alive with stone-top pizza on Thursday and Friday nights, and always with a seat for one more.
More than a cafe, we want The Hive to be a thread in the fabric of Darlington — friendly, clean, inviting, and inclusive for people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you're meeting a friend, working a slow morning away, or bringing the whole family, we hope you leave feeling looked after and a little lighter than when you arrived.

Share our roof
We share our little corner of Darlington with a couple of lovely local businesses — pop in and say hello while you're here:
- · A neighbouring antique shop, full of finds with a story
- · Kevin Photography, capturing the hills and the people in them

Pull up a chair
Most days the long table fills with regulars, grandparents, hill-walkers, and someone's toddler with a chocolate-smeared grin. Pull up a chair — there's always room for one more.
